March 2006 - Check out this funky cactus! The asking price at the cactus
retailer I visited only wanted $4 for it. However, with the way it was leaning over, I wasn't crazy about
spending time figuring out how to hold it up.
Over time, I have learned the term "pincushion cactus" is used informally for many cacti like these, just
like the terms Disco Cactus and Gray Old Man Cactus.
This particular cactus is in the Mammillaria group. There are so many variations of this kind, and it's difficult
to know the exact type.
